Marble is considered a metamorphic rock "Changed Form" where the minerals have undergone great pressure and extreme heat. Sometimes they have beeen folded many times into complex bands of movement. Several minerals can be dissolved, transported and re-crystallized by the sear strength of the earth's thermal heat and pressure. It's these factors that give you the wide range of colors, textures and veining.
